About Consulate

Welcome Message by the Honorary Consul

Welcome to the ‘Consulate of Guatemala, Bangladesh’. As Honorary Consul of Guatemala, it is a great privilege for me to represent Guatemala in Bangladesh and work towards bilateral economic and cultural development between the two countries. The Honorary Consulate is under the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala in New Delhi, India. Despite geographical distance, both Guatemala and Bangladesh are full of opportunities that can be bridged and shared towards communal welfares.

My current goal is to explore mutual interest and business opportunities of the countries and then build up joint communication to promote trade and investment to facilitate the countries’ corporate bodies or individuals. With a view to extend commercial phases beyond national borders, I welcome you all to join our venture. Please always feel free to contact our office for any guidance or query regarding Consular services. We will assist you with the best support in our dominion.

Culture of Guatemala

On a trip to Guatemala you will discover a culture that reflects strong Mayan and Spanish influences, and that continues to be defined as a contrast between poor Mayan villagers in the rural highlands, and the urbanized and relatively wealthy mestizos population (known in Guatemala as ladinos) who occupy the cities and surrounding agricultural plains. With the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores, power was transferred to the foreigners, and their mixed-race descendants, the ladino, became the new powerful families of Guatemala. Unlike in much of the rest of the New World, however, the Europeans did not completely marginalize or supplant the indigenous people, but rather formed an uneasy alliance.

A Look into Guatemala Politics

Guatemala’s political structure is a presidential representative democratic republic, in which the President of Guatemala has both positions of head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Congress of the Republic.
